A Little Deeper - Mirror Ball

Half of our Mirror Ball comes from Fazenda Pinhal, a 914-hectare farm close to San Antonio de Amparo in Sul de Minas, southeast Brazil. The high altitude and microclimate in this region create the perfect conditions for producing sustainable speciality coffee. With only 33% of the farm planted with coffee, the rest of the land is left as a nature reserve: A Eucalyptus forest, pastureland for cows, and a bird sanctuary to help rehabilitate and care for injured birds. Natural land regeneration is at the heart of this family farm’s ethos, and after winning Brazil’s most sustainable coffee farm award in 2019, the Gabarra Teixeria Family installed solar panels, which now supplies 100% of their energy usage.

The other half comes from Rwanda, “The Land of a Thousand Hills”. Farmers partnered with the Rwanda Trading Company (RTC), a community-driven group of smallholder growers around Kigali, Central Rwanda, who aim to capture the region’s diverse yet complementary flavour profiles. RTC supports growers in the region by teaching improved farming methods, purchasing cherries at fair prices, and returning investment into local communities. Farmers work together, receive training and investment, and earn a sustainable living, creating a community of like-minded growers. After nine years of providing agronomy training, RTC is now rejuvenating and reviving older farms and has donated approximately 5,000,000 seedlings across the region.

We love this coffee because of its consistency and versatility. Both milk-based and black cups, this coffee performs at such a high level.   Mirror Ball has a lovely body and full mouthfeel. With initial flavours of almond and dark chocolate, our Head Barista & Roaster’s tasting is as follows: ‘Oooh, you’re right about the almond. It’s definitely coming through more now. That was a really great LIME! I can taste lime.’ The citrus lime hits later than you think. No matter the weather, we are always welcoming of a Mirror Ball.
